Here are my suggestions for books to get you through.
It's Kinda a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
Craig isn't your average kid. He goes to one of the most elite school's in New York City. Soon, Craig feels like he can't keep up with the other students at his school and his world falls apart. While Contemplating suicide, he checks himself in to a mental ward at a hospital. Here he meets a group of characters that show him the meaning of life. The novel is slightly based on the author's own experience in a psychiatric ward. This book quickly turns into a feel good, coming of age story that reminds you everything is okay. I highly suggest it for those that struggle with a mental illness themselves or just need a reminder that it will all work out.
AP Study books
I bet you had no idea we have AP study books. There are hard copies in the media center or you can access them online for free through MackinVia. Look under resources on this page for information on accessing them.
A Handmaid's Tale by Margret Atwood
Okay, this book isn't going to give you the feel goods, but it certainly reminds you how good life actually is. This creepy, dystopian novel focuses on a future where women have no rights. Because of declining birthrates, the handmaids are forced to act as surrogates for other barren women and their husbands. A big warning: this book is not an easy read. However, I found my self speeding through just to see what was going to happen next. Once you finish the book, be sure to binge watch the show on HULU if your parents are okay with it.
Nimona by Noelle Stevenson
Graphic Novels are great when you need a quick, fun read to take your mind off things. Nimona was adorable and the art was so fun! This book was a National Book Award Finalist, so you know it's worth the read. Nimona is a shape shifting girl who want to help out the evil, villain Lord Ballister. Nimona is always up to trouble. Eventually this lead to a major battle between Lord Ballister Blackheart and his major nemesis Lord Goldenlion.
